I enjoyed reading the three blogs and watching the video. The video opened my eyes to the amount of data we use each year. No wonder the cell phone companies are now charging for the amount of data used! The three blogs hit close to home for me because I have currently piloting the BYOT (Bring Your Own Technology) program at my school. "The Journey from Digital Literacy to Digital Fluency" mentions teachers do not have to "dump" the teaching that is already there, they just have to make it better using technology. The blog "Creating Classrooms We Need" provides tips for moving towards a 21st century classroom. One of the hardest parts about technology, in my opinion, is keeping up with it! The students seem to know so much more than I do. "My Daily Info-Wrangling Routine" informs the reader how to keep up with the ever changing technology. Teachers need to stay current and move forward with technology. Technology is constantly changing so we need to be constantly learning. All three blog offer tips for achieving my goals for this course.
I agree with you, Lauren. Keeping up with technology is often the most difficult part. Just as you pointed out, students usually are able to adjust to changes a lot faster so let them help you. To be able to teach a teacher something shows them that even as adults, you never stop learning. Even as students they are able to contribute to their community even if it's a "simple" as showing someone how to work the latest technology!
The students know so much more about technology that many can imagine. I would love to know how you feel about BYOT because I would love to have that happen in our district. The students are very into making sure they are using technology and using it effectively.
